Frederick Douglass and other African Americans emphasized the debt that Americans owed to Haitians for slavery abolition. When the US invaded Haiti in 1915, the NAACP and other black organizations protested US imperialism vociferously at Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art.

December 28, 2013, Jacksonville, FL, the Ritz Theatre invites supporters to the closing event for the exhibit, "Word, Shout, Song: Lorenzo Dow Turner Connecting Communities Through Language". Visiting educator and UNESCO representative, Mohamed Barrie of Sierra Leone, will give an informal talk on the role of language in preserving culture. This traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian Institution's Anacostia Community Museum closes on December 31, 2013.

August 2013 we took an adventure to Key West, FL. We explored the history of Higgs Beach and how the people destined for slavery were brought to Key West and housed for several months in barracoons. Survivors were later taken to Liberia, West Africa.

2010 July (Annette Kashif and I) traveled to Bristol, England for our first UNESCO-TST conference. Our host was Marie-Annick Gournet, Ph.D. We spent two weeks attending the teacher workshops and visiting historical sites including the Slave Museum in Liverpool, England.
